-
- Yes, but the Toaster includes a LightWave seat. So I would then have two LW
- seats which is no advantage on a single machine but have to pay the freight
- for two (OK - only 70% of the freight for the second). I'm getting the effect
- of a license improvement for the price of a new license. This is the core
- reason for all my whining I guess. I think NewTek should make a concession to
- Toaster users who use the Toaster for primarily for LightWave. How 'bout a
- onetime "move to SA" deal. Our Toaster sits in a 2000 anyway. The upgrades
- will probably favor 4000 users. So I doubt if the upgrades to Switcher etc.
- matter to much to us. ToasterPaint does little for us these days and we just
- don't use the CG much. Or, how 'bout a LW for Toaster users (how's that for
- convoluted) that doesn't run from Switcher, allows a LW only upgrade path, but
- uses the Toaster as a dongle and therefore avoids the two seat problem. One
- Toaster, one seat. (I realize this "solution" is probably more trouble
- than it is worth from coding, marketing, production and stocking
- standpoints.)

- Note also that I did not know that I could excercise BOTH upgrade options -
- Toaster Upgrade and "Special" Upgrade. Nonetheless, I still feel like Toaster
- users are being left as last in line with the Toaster release appearing to be
- last priority. This is a little sad since we have been LW users longest. I do
- agree that having two licenses (even if one is an older version) has true
- value. We upgraded our 3.5 SA to the PC and being able to sell the 3000
- machine with a legal (I assume the 3.5 license is transferable - someone
- correct me if I am wrong - if I am wrong, then it really isn't two licenses)
- version of LW installed. That adds value to the 3000 machine. I guess that
- is really half the problem. NewTek gives me a smokin' deal on SA upgrades -
- New License for $150 - and last-in-line status on the Toaster. Maybe it
- averages out since we have both packages.
-
- BTW - thanks for getting involved. I realize that is a messy proposition for
- you considering your position as a non-marketing NewTek type. I hope you and
- others realize that I was and am not simply whining 'cuz I'm not getting
- enough stuff for free. If I had known that events would turn as they
- have I would probably have bought two more SA versions in early '95. I'm
- fairly certain that there are a few Amiga users out there who would have been
- happy to purchase the old 3.5 license at a deep discount(you know - starving
- students needing "student" discounts), NewTek would have benefitted from
- improved cash flow when it appears to have needed it, and I would have current
- software at a very good price. I never realized until I received the 4.0
- upgrade that NewTek was allowing me to have two licenses. I planned on
- sending an Amiga dongle back!
